What is the function of the Electronic Declaration of Currency in Brazil?

Individuals entering or leaving Brazil with funds in Brazilian or foreign currency, in an amount exceeding BRL$10,000.00 (ten thousand Brazilian Reais), must declare said amount to the nearest Brazilian Federal Revenue Department Secretaria da Receita Federal) unit upon entry or exit from Brazil, using the Declaration of Currency (e-DBV) and listing the relevant amounts in currency, checks and/or traveler's checks which said individuals are in possession of.

As such, travelers entering or exiting Brazil with currency, be it in Brazilian or foreign, in an amount exceeding BRL$10,000.00 (ten thousand Brazilian Reais), or the equivalent thereof in other forms, must declare said funds on the Electronic Declaration of Currency.
